MEN'S SOCCER: Benjamin Aviles named an LSC Player of the Week

Sul Ross State's Benjamin Aviles earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors for the final week of the regular season.
 
The Lobos ended the season with a scoreless draw against UT Tyler back on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

OFFENSIVE

Max Gonzales, Midwestern State, F, Sr., Psychology, Dripping Springs, Texas

Midwestern State senior forward Max Gonzales scored in his second consecutive match to fuel the Mustangs' defeat of No. 11-ranked and conference champion St. Mary's. Gonzales' goal gave MSU a commanding 3-1 lead and helped spoil the Rattlers' bid for an unbeaten run through league play. Gonzales' also helped the Mustangs to their third straight win entering the LSC tournament.
 
DEFENSIVE

Zakaria Daaou, West Texas A&M, D, Jr., Accounting, Frankfurt, Germany

West Texas A&M junior defender Zakaria Daaou fueled a shutout and netted the game-winning goal against St. Edward's in the regular season finale to secure the No. 4 seed in the LSC tournament. With the win, the Buffs also earned the right to host a quarterfinal match. Daaou scored in 35th minute and also helped the Buffs extend their unbeaten streak to five games and end the Hilltoppers' five-game unbeaten streak.

Sul Ross State freshman goalkeeper Benjamin Aviles made 10 saves to shut out UT Tyler in the regular season finale. The 10 stops in the scoreless draw ties for a single-game high in the LSC this season. He made seven saves in the first half. Aviles leads the conference with 80 saves and is tied for second with five shutouts.
