Name, Image and Likeness (NIL)
As of July 1st, 2021, the NCAA and the Texas State Legislation allow all student-athletes the opportunity to benefit from their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). All three divisions of the NCAA have adopted a uniform, interim policy suspending previous NCAA rules regarding name, image, and likeness for all incoming and current student-athletes.
The interim policy provides the following guidance to member schools, student-athletes, and their families:
- Individuals can engage in NIL activities that are consistent with the law of the state where the school is located. Colleges and universities may be a resource for state law questions.
- Individuals can use a professional services provider or form an agreement with an agent for NIL activities.
- State law and schools/conferences may impose reporting requirements.
Before engaging in NIL activities, the student-athlete must:
- Attend a literacy and life skills workshop at the beginning of the student’s first and third academic years at the institution. The workshop must be at least five hours in duration and include information on financial aid, debt management, time management, budgeting, and academic resources available to the student-athlete. Note that SRSU Athletics will not be providing the literacy and life skills workshop. Certification of completion of the workshop must be sent to the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Compliance.

Items to Note:
- Student-Athletes and Prospective Student-Athletes may not use any SRSU logos, trademarks, or apparel as part of any NIL activity agreements.
- SRSU and athletic staff will not be involved in arranging NIL transactions for student-athletes, nor will they provide contact information for student-athletes to various entities.
- NIL contractual agreements may not be used as recruiting inducements and cannot constitute Pay-For-Play.
