Lobos Opens Up LSC Season

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University men's soccer team (3-2-2) opens the Lone Star Conference season this weekend.

Saturday, Oct. 4 – 5:00 p.m. – at St. Mary's (0-0-1 LSC, 1-1-6)
Johnny Thurbin has posted three shutouts and a 0.88 G.A.A.  This is the second meeting with the Rattlers winning 3-0 last year.

LAST WEEK
Sul Ross State beat Lubbock Christian (1-5-1) 1-0, September 25. 

At the 60:35 mark, the Chaps were called for a foul in the box.  Junior Miguel Achique converted the penalty kick to put the Lobos up 1-0.  SRSU tightened up the defense allowing only two shots on goal the rest of the way.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE RANKINGS
Two Lobos ranks among the leaders:  Benjamin Aviles – saves per game (5.40) and D. Hernandez in assists per game (0.71).  As a team, SRSU are first in saves per game (4.00) and goals per game (2.14) and second in points per game (5.57).

STAYING OFF THE UNBEATEN PATH
The Lobos have pushed their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2), the longest in program history.

RECORD BREAKING WIN
Aviles picked up his sixth career victory over the Chaps.  That breaks the school record of five he held with two other people.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK TIMES 2
Miguel Achique was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4.  This is the second time this season a Lobo has earned an LSC weekly award.
