Lobos remain perfect in conference with thrilling 67-64 win over Cowboys #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASChoops

Box Score ABILENE- Jezreel Griffin and Tristen Licon came up clutch in the second half in a back and forth 67-64 win Thursday over Hardin-Simmons.

Sully's first lead of the game came at 14:13 on a jumper by Tristen Licon. Licon then converted another layup after he rebounded his own miss for an 8-5 lead to end a 6-0 run.

Now down 20-15, the Lobos went on a 14-0 run for a nine-point lead. Brayden Fry started the run with a layup and scored six during the streak. Cole Avery finished the scoring burst with a triple with 6:08 left in the first. He hit two from beyond the arc during the run.

Sully held a lead the remainder of the half and took a 37-32 lead to the break.

The Cowboys started the second half with a 12-0 run to take a 44-37 lead with 12:57 remaining.

Licon ended the Lobo dry spell with a layup at 11:56. He was fouled but missed the free throw for a 44-39 score.

HSU answered with a layup and foul just 22 seconds later. The free throw was good for an eight-point lead.

Jezreel Griffin and Licon responded with three-pointers on three straight possessions to retake the lead on a 9-0 run. Griffin made back-to-back and Licon finished the run for a 48-47 lead with 9:26 remaining.

The Cowboys answered with a four-point play after being fouled on a made triple for a three-point lead.

Griffin and Licon continued their strong second half as Griffin converted a layup and Licon a three-pointer on the next two Lobo possessions for a 53-51 lead at the 7:30 mark.

HSU came back with their own 5-0 run to lead 56-53 at 5:32.

Fry's layup at 5:15 brought it to within one, but three free throws put the Cowboys up 59-55 with 3:47 left.

Down 62-59 with 1:49 left, Griffin converted a layup to cut it to one. The Lobos immediately put pressure on the Cowboys as Licon stole the ball after the inbound and went back up for the go-ahead jumper with 1:27 remaining.

HSU retook the lead next time down the floor on a jumper for a 64-63 score with 1:01 left.

Griffin was fouled with 35 seconds remaining and sank both free throws for a 65-64 lead.

The Cowboys couldn't convert next time down the floor as Griffin rebounded the miss and Sully called timeout. 

Hollis was fouled on the inbound with 25 seconds left and drained both free throws for a 67-64 lead.

After another HSU miss, Logan Dixon was fouled on the rebound with five seconds left and headed to the line. He missed the first of his one-and-one which gave HSU a chance to tie. Their three-pointer was off the mark and the Lobos came away with a 67-64 nail-biting win over the Cowboys.

Licon and Griffin finished with a team-high 18 points on the night. Licon's nine rebound performance was a game-high, five of which were offensive. The pair combined for 6-10 from beyond the arc, Griffin 3-5 and Licon 2-5.

Fry finished with eight points, six rebounds, and a game-high four blocks.

Sully moves to 7-6 on the year and 4-0 in ASC play. Hardin-Simmons drops to 4-9 and 0-4.

The Lobos stay put on the road and make a short trek to McMurry University Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff against the War Hawks.
