TUCSON, Ariz.- The Sul Ross State University baseball team fell, 20-6 to University of the Redlands in the first round of the annual Cactus Classic Friday.
The Bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead in the opening at-bat.
In the bottom of the first,
Wesley Moss scored off an unassisted ground out by
Ryan Almager.
Joseph Sanchez then scored off a triple by
Jonathon Bigley to cut the Sul Ross deficit to one.
Bigley then came across off a single by
Monty Maley to tie the game at three heading to the second.
Redlands then scattered 14 runs over the the third through sixth innings to take a 17-3 lead before adding a three-run cushion in the top of the eighth.
A two-out, RBI double by Almager in the bottom of the ninth plated
Ryan DeLeon and
Chris Browning but it was all the Lobos could muster as Redlands claimed the 20-6 win.
Sul Ross suffers its first loss of the season and drops to 3-1 while the Bulldogs improve to 2-0.
The Lobos will take on Chapman and Claremont Mudd Scripts Saturday.
