For the first time in more than a decade the Sul Ross men's basketball team will host the American Southwest Conference Men's Basketball Championship.

This year's event marks the 20th year of the annual post season tournament and will be held February 25-27.

The Lobos nailed down the West Division title Saturday in a thrilling 94-91 victory over visiting Concordia.

Sul Ross will close out the regular season Saturday with a trip to the Brownwood Coliseum to take on Howard Payne.

The American Southwest Conference Championship has returned to its traditional East vs. West Division format after a two-year hiatus.

The quarterfinal round will feature four games followed by two matchups in the semifinals and the championship is slated for a 4:00 p.m. tip on Feb. 27.

Entering the last week of the regular season the tournament field for the 2016 American Southwest Conference Championship has almost been decided. East Texas Baptist has clinched the East Division title for the second time in program history (2002-03) and Sul Ross claimed its first West Division title since the 2004-05.

In addition to ETBU, Texas Dallas, Louisiana College and LeTourneau will be competing in the ASC tournament from the East Division. In the West Division behind SRSU, Hardin-Simmons and Concordia Texas have clinched postseason berths while Howard Payne and Mary Hardin-Baylor are tied at 4-9 each with one division game left to play.

FELICIANO BREAKS SCHOOL, CONFERENCE AND CAREER RECORDS

Sul Ross senior guard Rocky Feliciano (El Paso/Hanks) has written his name in the ASC record books for the fourth time this season. In four separate performances, Feliciano has recorded perfect outings from the charity stripe.

He was the first player in ASC history to go a perfect 14-of-14 from the free-throw line against Division II member Texas-Permian Basin (Nov. 27), and later against Dallas Christian (Dec. 10) Feliciano became the first player in ASC history to record a perfect 16-of-16 performance from the foul line. Most recently, Feliciano recorded another perfect outing knocking down 13-of-13 at Hardin-Simmons and an 8-of-8 finish against Concordia.

His 32 points scored against the Tornadoes was a career best. He tallied 30 points on December 10 in a 100-96 win at Dallas Christian.

RECAP

Two crucial foul shots by Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) with 21 seconds left in the game were just enough cushion Sul Ross needed as the Lobos posted a narrow 77-75 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Thursday at the Gallego Center.

The contest ended on an NBA three-pointer by UMHB's DeMarius Cress just two seconds before the final buzzer.

The victory over the Cru gives Sul Ross a 2-0 season sweep over UMHB following an 85-75 Lobo win in Belton on January 23.

Freshman Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) led Sul Ross scorers with 17 points. Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) and Feliciano contributed 16 and 13 points while Dawson and Jacob Caloss (Poth/PHS) added 12 and 10. Dawson secured a double double with a team best 11 rebounds.

As a team the Lobos finished shooting 27 of 61 from the floor at 44 percent. Sully hit four of seven shots from outside the arc in the second half following a slow production in the opening period to finish at 32 percent.

Feliciano then nailed down a career high 32 points and helped his teammates hold on for a 94-91 ASC victory over Concordia at a rowdy Gallego Center Saturday.

The win solidified the Lobos as ASC West Division champions.

Anders and Thomasson  posted 14 points each in the victory over the Tornadoes.

Dawson and Alex Harrison (Lubbock/Monterey) rounded out double figure scorers with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Sul Ross was hot from the field finishing 32 of 49 at 65 percent and shot an astounding 70 percent from outside the arc at seven of ten.

For the fourth time this season Feliciano has had a perfect showing from the free throw line shooting a flawless 8-8 from the charity stripe.

LAST MEETING:  Jan. 30, 2016, SRSU-78, HPU-69

Feliciano posted a second season best 26 points to lead Sul Ross to a 78-69 conference victory over visiting Howard Payne on January 30.

Thomasson and Webb recorded 15 and 14 points on the day.

Sul Ross shot 23 of 54 from the field against HPU at 43 percent.

The Yellow Jackets shot a frigid four of 16 from the free throw line in the first half to finish at 11 of 29 or 38 percent for the game.
