In just their second home game of the season the Sul Ross women's basketball team will look to strike the victory column as the Lady Lobos face Belhaven and East Texas Baptist in a pair of ASC matchups this Thursday and Saturday at the Gallego Center.

Both games can be heard live on KVLF AM 1240 and at bigbendradio.com.

Due to the Blazers' provisional membership status in the ASC Thursday's matchup with Belhaven will not count as an ASC contest.

RECAP

SRSU (3-10, 0-5 ASC) lost a pair of heartbreaking decisions to begin the new year.

A one-point, 55-54 loss at Ozarks last Saturday and a 72-69 setback at U.T. Dallas on Monday has Sul Ross searching for its first conference win for 2015-16.

Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds as Sul Ross dropped a 55-54 conference decision to University of the Ozarks Saturday.

Jonette Jackson (Killeen/Shoemaker) polled a double double 12 points and 16 rebounds in the effort while Ashley Minjarez (El Paso/Irvin) tallied 10 points in the effort.

The Lady Lobos connected on 22 of 57 shots from the field to finish at 39 percent shooting for the day.

Miles and Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) were perfect from the charity stripe each posting 2-2 performances as Sully nailed down eight of 11 foul shots at 73 percent.
A jumper by Madison Steele and two free throws by Nicolette Erkman with five seconds left fueled a 72-69 U.T. Dallas victory over visiting Sul Ross Monday.

Mia Ochoa (Levelland/Whitharral) paced the Lady Lobos with 16 points while Miles added a double double 15 points and 11 rebounds. Shannon Villanueva (San Raman, CA/California) supplied 13 points in the effort.

Sul Ross shot nearly 50 percent from the field at 10-21 or 49 percent while connecting on five of nine from outside the arc at 63 percent.

SCOUTING THE BLAZERS AND TIGERS

At 5-6 on the season Belhaven is fresh off a 73-69 edging of McMurry University Monday in Jackson.

Candler Gregory led the team in points and rebounds at 28 and eight. Sierra Pittman notched a double double 10 points and 10 assists in the victory.

Gregory's performance against the War Hawks was good for a season high. She currently leads the team in scoring averaging 14 points per game while Pittman averages 13.5. Vamika Smith leads rebounders averaging 7.7 boards per contest.

Belhaven is currently on a two-game winning streak as the Blazers defeated Hardin-Simmons at home in a 60-52 decision on January 2. Pittman led with an individual season best 23 points in that contest.

Meanwhile East Texas Baptist is enjoying 9-2 and 3-0 season and conference marks and currently sits in second place in the ASC East Division standings.

The Tigers are on a five-game victory run following a 73-57 blowout of visiting Concordia Monday.

Taylee Alexander finished with a double double 17 points and 11 boards in the win over the Tornadoes.

Alexander also notched a 17-point performance on December 12 in a 68-60 home nonconference victory over Rust.

April Leonard sits as leading point producer for ETBU with an 18.4 points per game average. Leonard posted a season high 30 points in a 69-66 season-opening victory against Southwestern on November 14.

Alexander leads in rebounds for the Tigers at 8.7

ETBU's two losses came on November 27 and 28 in 55-52 and 82-79 (OT) setbacks against former ASC opponents Schreiner and Texas Lutheran.
