Lobos Welcome Mitchell Sisters

ALPINE, Texas – Sul Ross State University women's basketball is announcing the addition of Jayda and Ava Mitchell (San Antonio, Texas) to the program for the 2026-27. As the second transfer additions of the offseason, they bring collegiate experience, leadership, and potential to Alpine and are expected to make an immediate impact both on and off the court.

Jayda Mitchell comes to SRSU from Coastal Bend College.  She started 27 of 29 games played averaging 5.93 points a game while shooting 72.7% from the line.  Mitchell spent her freshman year at NCAA Division III Hardin-Simmons (2024-25).

Ava Mitchell comes in from Lone Star Conference opponent Texas A&M Kingsville.  She gained valuable experience playing in 25 games for the Javelinas.  As a senior at Johnson High School, Mitchell was All-District second team and helped the Jaguars go 23-13 and qualify for the playoffs

"We are very excited to welcome sisters Jayda and Ava Mitchell to the Lady Lobos program," said Sul Ross State Head Women's Basketball Coach EJ Smith. "Jayda is a leader on the floor who understands the importance of team chemistry. With several years of playing at the college level, we expect Jayda to make an easier transition to the Division II level. We're also looking forward to working with Ava and helping her continue to build her career and add to her existing achievements. We expect both of these student-athletes to be great representatives of the program both on and off the court."
