Second half surge lifts Sam Houston passed SRSU

HUNTSVILLE- Despite leading for most of the first half the Sul Ross men's basketball team could not overcome a 72-point scoring spree by the Bearkats in the closing period as Sam Houston delivered a 109-61 exhibition knock out of the Lobos Sunday in Huntsville.

The Bearkats erupted in the second half shooting 28 of 44 to finish at 41-81 or 51 percent for the contest.

Sul Ross saw two players in double figures as Rocky Feliciano (El Paso/Hanks) and Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) recorded 12 and 10 point performances respectively.

The Lobos took the lead at the 13:29 first half mark as Xavier Webb (Riverton, WY/RHS) hit a three-point basket giving Sul Ross a 16-14 advantage.

Sully then mounted a 6-0 drive which ended on a long range shot by Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) propelling the Lobos to a 24-16 lead.

SHSU regained the lead at 2:45 and ended the half on a 4-0 run to take a 37-32 favor to the break.

The Bearkats exploded with a 23-6 run to begin the second half and went up by as much as 55 before allowing Sul  Ross to within the 50-point mark as Sam Houston sailed to the 109-61 victory.

The Lobos will face Dallas Christian and the University of Dallas in a pair of road matches December 10 and 12.
