SRSU Stats The Sul Ross men's basketball team (4-6, 2-1 ASC) will take their West Division, second place standing out of state to begin the new year as the Lobos face University of the Ozarks January 2 at 3:00 p.m.
Sul Ross returns to Texas to take on ASC East nemesis U.T. Dallas on January 4 with a tip off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
RECAP Coach Clif Carroll's Lobos wrapped up 2015 on a rather positive note with one exemption.
Sul Ross took it on the chin to close out the month of December against a team which has beaten some of the most respected NCAA Division I programs in the nation as the Lobos fell 98-40 to U.T. Arlington in an exhibition game on December 21.
UTA has beaten the likes of Ohio State and Memphis and fell in overtime to the Texas Longhorns, 80-73 on December 1.
Sul Ross finished with three players in double figures led by Rocky Feliciano's (El Paso/Hanks) 12 points. Alex Harrison (Lubbock/Monterey) and Xavier Webb (Riverton, WY/RHS) contributed 10 points each in the effort.
Feliciano also led at the boards with five rebounds.
Now for the good news.
With the exhibition aside Lobos currently sport a two-game winning streak following a 75-66 defeat of visiting Louisiana College on December 19.
Webb led four players in double figures with 19 points as the Sul Ross men's basketball team defeated visiting Louisiana College, 75-66 in conference competition Saturday.
Harrison scored 16 points coming back from injury. Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) and Jacob Caloss (Poth/PHS) registered 12 and 10 points respectively.
Thomasson nailed down eight rebounds for the afternoon against the Wildcats in only the second home game for the Lobos of the season.
Three nights before in Hobbs, New Mexico, Thomasson notched his fourth double double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds as Sul Ross defeated University of the Southwest, 83-75.
The Lobos posted three more players in double figures as Webb had a hot hand with 22 points. Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) and Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) finished the night with 10-point performances each.
Sul Ross shot an impressive 30-54 from the floor at 56 percent, good for a season high. Webb was four of seven from beyond the arc to help the Lobos to a 46 percent showing from three-point distance.
The Lobos were red hot converting nine of 14 from three-point distance at 64 percent and 25 of 46 from the field at 54 percent.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES AND COMETS Sul Ross makes their longest trek of the season to Clarksville to face an Ozarks team with a 5-1 record (0-1, ASC).
The Eagles currently sit in sixth place in the ASC East following a 77-73 conference home setback to the Comets on December 5.
Josh Berard recorded a second season high 27 points in the effort against UTD which was just three points behind his season best 30-point performance in a 111-97 season opening victory over Southwest Advent on November 13.
Berard leads the team in scoring averaging 21 points per game. Jace Richardson (16.2 ppg), Kelby Robinson (16 ppg), Cade Niswonger (13.7 ppg) and Josh Ferrell (10 ppg) round out double figure scoring averages for Ozarks.
Robinson is the leading rebound producer averaging 10.8 boards per contest.
At 6-1 and 1-0 U.T. Dallas holds a second place standing in the East after a 66-57 non conference loss at former ASC foe Centenary on December 20.
Caleb Banks scored a second season high 16 points in the Comets only loss of the season.
Banks scored a season high 18 points in a season opening win over Centenary on November 14 in the first of a two-game season series.
Banks currently averages 12.6 points a game to lead UTD while Kyle Coulter and Dapo Ogunfeitmi average 12.1 and 10.9 points respectively.
Coulter averages a team best 8.7 boards per game.
WEBB A WYOMING WINNER Webb sizzled from outside the arc in the wins over Southwest and Louisiana College as the Riverton, Wyoming junior pulled off back-to-back 4 for 7 performances from three-point distance.
Webb fired a .667 shooting percentage against the Mustangs in Hobbs before finishing with a .625 showing in the win over the Wildcats at the Gallego Center.
He currently averages 7.3 points per game and has nailed 13 of 19 shots from the free throw line.
His current .489 shooting percentage is good for a third team high behind teammates Anders (.525) and Thomasson (.567).
Webb has started in three out of the last five games for the Lobos.
UPCOMINGSul Ross will settle in at the Gallego Center for the better part of January as the Lobos begin the first of a four-game home stand beginning January 7 against Belhaven.
Sully will then host East Texas Baptist University on January 9 before entertaining McMurry and Hardin-Simmons January 14 and 16.
The Lobos will then pay visits to Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor January 21 and 23 before Howard Payne comes to the Gallego Center on January 30.
