UTT STATSFollowing a four game stretch which has consisted of all scholarship opponents the Sul Ross men's basketball team will begin their conference journey on the road this week.
RECAP: U.T.P.B.-102, SRSU-82The Lobos' last competition came on November 27 in a 102-82 loss to NCAA Division II U.T. Permian Basin at the Gallego Center.
Mike Huffman (El Paso/Eastwood) and Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) saddled 10 points each in the effort while Alex Harrison (Lubbock/Monterrey) grabbed six rebounds.
Sul Ross shot 36 percent from the field against the Division II Falcons. Feliciano's 14 points from the charity stripe aided the Lobo free throw shooting performance as Sully nailed 33-41 from the stripe at 81 percent. Huffman was also perfect at the line at 4-4 while Patrick Mound (Cedar Park/Coleman) went 5-5.
The Lobos outscored the Falcons by a 42-24 margin in points off the bench while U.T.P.B. posted a 42-24 margin in points in the paint.
FELICIANO ROCK SOLID AT THE LINERocky Feliciano (El Paso/Hanks) finished with a solid effort at the free throw line last Friday connecting on all four of his foul shots to add to his 22-point performance. His perfect showing at the line against the Falcons broke an ASC record for consecutive free throws made in a game. Feliciano is also batting 1.000 at the stripe for the season at 32-32.
ON THE ROAD AGAINSul Ross is back on the road to open American Southwest Conference competition as Sully faces a pair of cross division opponents this Thursday and Saturday.
The Lobos are at LeTourneau for a 7:30 nightcap Thursday before facing U.T. Tyler in a 3:00 matinee Saturday. Sul Ross will complete the second half of a weekend back-to-back
Sunday in Huntsville in exhibition play against Sam Houston St. Tip off for that contest is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Sul Ross will head to Dallas next week for action against Dallas Christian and the University of Dallas before making the short skip to Hobbs to take on University of the Southwest on December 16.
The Lobos will then host Louisiana College in Sully's only home game on December 19 before a return trip to the Metroplex as Sul Ross will face U.T. Arlington in exhibition play on December 21 to close out the month.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS AND PATRIOTSThe Lobos (0-4) open ASC competition Thursday in Longview against a LeTourneau team that has seen its share of struggles early in the season. At 1-4 the Yellow Jackets are coming off a heartbreaking 95-92 overtime loss to former ASC foe Schreiner. LeTourneau's lone victory of the season game in game two as the Jackets recorded a 77-70 road victory over Millsaps.
Alec Colhoff leads the team in scoring averaging 17 points per game. Colhoff registered 26 points in the loss to Schreiner on November 28. Giovanny Thompson serves as leading rebounder for LeTourneau and averages 12.6 boards per contest.
U.T. Tyler has three games under their belt and currently sit at 2-1. The Patriots opened the season on November 15 with an 83-67 loss at Texas Lutheran then rebounded with 94-90 and 99-85 victories over Southwestern and Rust on November 21 and 24.
Anthony Gonzalez, who had team highs of 16 and 28 points against TLU and Rust, leads UTT in scoring averaging 19.7 points per contest. Melvin Anthony is the leading rebounder and averages six boards per game.
