ALPINE, Texas – Itzel Caro and Makayla Harris will be joining the Sul Ross State University women's basketball team in the fall of 2025. Both players are incoming freshmen.

Itzel Caro | 5-7 | Eastwood High School | El Paso, Texas
Caro averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, four assists and two steals per game.  She helped the Troopers go 51-14 during her two seasons and reach the Class 6A regional quarterfinals (2023-24).  Caro was a Conference All-Star, All-District first team and Academic All-State.

"We are so happy to call Itzel a Lady Lobo," said Smith.  "As a former team captain, Itzel can bring a lot of energy and positivity to our program, which can help add onto our culture here. Also, Itzel's seriousness towards her game will help us go to the next level."

Makayla Harris | 5-9 | Mansfield Summit High School | Arlington, Texas
Harris averaged 10.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and blocked 1.5 shots per game while shooting 80% from the line.  A four-year player, she helped the Jaguars qualify for the Class 5A tournament three times.  Harris made the Mavs Classic All-Tournament team and was the District 8-5A Most Valuable Player.

"As an MVP in her district, Makayla is a strong, athletic guard who studies the game," said Smith.  "I love her competitiveness and her strong work ethic, which when combined, can be very successful. We're proud to welcome Makayla to our program."
