Lobos Earn Lone Star Conference Honors

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University football team had solid representation on the All-Lone Star Conference (LSC) team. Five players were recognized.

First Team

Senior – Defensive Back - Brendon Martin
Martin had 66 solo tackles with 37 assists for 103 total tackles, 1.5 for a loss, blocked six passes and picked off one for 21 yards. Currently in the LSC, he is second in solos, third in tackles per game (9.36) and sixth in assists.

Martin had at least seven tackles in every game with a season-high of 17 vs. Eastern New Mexico (Nov. 1). For single season, he was fourth in solos and sixth in total tackles and careerwise is second in solo tackles (154) and fifth in total tackles (234).

Martin is the first Lobo to earn first team honors as well as being a repeat honoree. He was named to the second team in 2024.

Second Team

Junior – Wide Receiver - Yamil Oaxaca
Oaxaca caught 27 passes for 532 yards and three touchdowns, returned 11 kickoffs for 240 yards and three punts for 26 yards to total 798 all-purpose yards. Currently in the LSC, he is fourth in yards per catch (19.70) and tenth in kick return average (21.82 yards). Oaxaca had three 100-yard receiving games with a high of 134 vs. UT Permian Basin (Nov. 15).

Honorable Mention

Senior – Linebacker – Darryl Minor Jr.
Minor had 51 solo tackles with 40 assists for 91 total tackles, seven for a loss with three sacks, broke up two passes and forced a fumble. Currently in the LSC, he is fifth in assists, solos and tackles per game (8.27).

Minor had at least seven tackles in each of the last seven games with a season-high of 18 vs. Western New Mexico (Oct. 18).

Senior – Wide Receiver - Taribbean Ramirez
Ramirez caught a team-high 30 passes for 432 yards and a touchdown. He had eight catches for 177 yards against Western New Mexico (Oct. 18). Ramirez had at least three catches in each of the last five games.

Junior – Defensive Back – Evian Thompson
Thompson had 68 solo tackles with 37 assists for 105 total tackles, one for a loss, forced a fumble and blocked five passes. Currently he leads the LSC in solo tackles and tackles per game (9.55) and is sixth in assists.

Thompson had at least six tackles in all but one game with a school record of 23 vs. Angelo State (Oct. 25). For single season, he was third in solos and fifth in total tackles and ranks fifth in career solo tackles (130). Thompson was also the first Lobo to be named to the LSC All-Academic team.
