Lobos Welcome Eagles for 2025–26 Opener

Alpine, Texas — Sul Ross State University Women's Basketball is set to open its 2025–26 season at home on Saturday, November 15, when the Lobos welcome Northern New Mexico College to the Gallego Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The matchup marks the beginning of a fresh campaign for the Lobos, who look to build momentum early behind a mix of returning experience and new talent. Head coach EJ Lee Smith enters another season leading a program focused on toughness, pace, and team chemistry, with Sul Ross aiming to establish its identity on both ends of the floor through defensive pressure and balanced scoring.

The 2025–26 season also marks the program's final year in the NCAA Division II provisional membership period within the Lone Star Conference. Guard Victoria Aguayo was named a preseason player to watch, adding leadership and scoring ability to a roster eager to make its mark.

"We are very excited about kicking off the 2025-26 season with our 1st home game against NNMU.

Our players have been practicing hard and eagerly awaiting the start of the season since the school year began. Victoria and Ariana have been stepping up for their roles as our captains. Also, Sophiya has worked on her game consistently, so I expect her to do well.

Leslie's experience will add to Lady Lobos, and I believe we have good freshmen who can contribute to our program as long as they maintain a strong worth ethic, remain selfless, and support one another. As long as we all play hard, play smart, and play together, we will produce positive results.

NNMU Guards are scrappy, and they can shoot from the arc, especially Romero. Jenkins is an undersized post player, but she gets a lot of rebounds and put backs. They are a smaller team like us, but they are quick, so we will have to match their energy from the get-go. This should be a great first game to test our program.
