WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Lobos take on LeTourneau and ETBU for final homestand of the season

The 2023-2024 Sul Ross State basketball season is down to its final three games.

For the Sul Ross State women, the team is trying to end the year on a high note while also reaching some milestones along the way.

The Lobos have their final homestand of the season as LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist make the far trek to the Pete P. Gallego Center this week.

>> CHASING 1,000:

Marley Rokas is just 47 points away from joining the 1,000-point club.

Rokas has scored 953 points in her storied three-year career with the Lobos.

She is officially eighth on the programs all-time scoring leaders list. Rokas is trying to become the eighth Lobo to amass 1,000 or more points in a career.

The most recent player to achieve the milestone was April Ramirez who scored 1,526 points from 2000-2004.

Rokas surpassed Leslie Martin on the all-time scorer's leaderboard. Martin scored 945 points from 1984-1987.

In her last eight games, Rokas has averaged 20 points. During the stretch she tallied four-straight double-doubles while also scoring a career-high 34 points against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Feb. 1.

Rokas has had five double-doubles this season.

The third-best scorer in the American Southwest Conference, Rokas leads her team with 357 points scored while she also leads the way in free throws, making 101 shots out of 118 attempts (85%).

Rokas is currently 12th on the programs all-time rebounding leaderboard with 440 career rebounds.

She is the fifth-best rebounder in the conference with 146 boards.

>> THE LOBOS:

Victoria Aguayo continues to have a solid season.

The sophomore leads the conference with 84 steals while she ranks third in rebounding with 168 boards.

Aguayo is already fourth in the program's record book for most steals in a season. She is one steal away from tying the third-highest mark recorded by Vicky Vadana during the 1986-1987 season.

During the 64-61 win over Concordia this past weekend, Aguayo tallied a triple-double with 10 points, 15 rebounds and 11 steals.

Cheyanne Bonilla is tied for second in the conference with 67 assists while teammate Kayley Diaz ranks fourth with 63 assists.

Bonilla also ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 10 points a game.

>> SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:

LeTourneau is riding an eight-game losing skid since winning its last game back on Jan. 4 against Howard Payne.

Last week, LeTourneau suffered a seven-point loss to nationally-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor and on Saturday the Yellowjackets fell to East Texas Baptist, 68-48.

Haylee Jordan leads the Yellowjackets with 287 points, 243 rebounds, 116 field goals made and 73 blocks.

Jordan sits atop the conference leaderboard in rebounding and blocked shots.

East Texas Baptist is riding a four-game winning streak which included an upset of Mary Hardin-Baylor back on Jan. 25.

The Tigers also notched a five-point road victory over the conference's third best team — McMurry.

Payton Hicks leads the way averaging 13 points a game with a team-high 61 assists, 79 made field goals and 22 made three-pointers.

Sul Ross State is trying to pull off the season sweep of LeTourneau after winning on the road, 62-48.

The Lobos suffered a nine-point loss to East Texas Baptist back on Jan. 4.
