FOOTBALL: Carlos Arreola and Jordan Morales named LSC Players of the Week

Carlos Arreola and Jordan Morales were named Lone Star Conference Football Players of the Week for the week of Nov. 2.

The Lobo football team notched a 33-28 win over Eastern New Mexico last weekend. 

Arreola and Morales become the first student-athletes in the Division II era to earn LSC Player of the Week recognition.

OFFENSIVE

Jordan Morales, Sul Ross State, RB, Fr., Kinesiology and Human Performance, El Paso, Texas

Sul Ross State freshman running back Jordan Morales had 122 yards and two touchdowns on six carries to lead the Lobos to their second conference win, a 33-28 victory over Eastern New Mexico. Morales had an 85-yard TD run – the second longest in the LSC this season – in the third quarter to tie the game at 14-14. It was also the Lobos' first offensive score. He also found the end zone on a five-yard run in the fourth quarter to bring SRSU within 28-24. Morales added four catches for 13 yards. He is averaging 5.5 yards per carry this season.
 
DEFENSIVE

Kenton Allen, Angelo State, LB, Sr., Computer Science, Riverside, Calif.

Angelo State senior linebacker Kenton Allen had a game-high 13 tackles and a key fourth-quarter interception to help the Rams defeat No. 17-ranked Central Washington 17-16 and stay atop the conference standings. Allen, who wins the league's top weekly defensive award for the second time this season, had four solo tackles to also help the Rams extend their winning streak to seven games. His interception came on the ASU 15-yard line to keep the score 17-10 with under 8 minutes to play. He returned the pick 13 yards. Allen and company held CWU without a TD in the first and third quarter. The unit has allowed just 40 points with two shutouts over their last six games.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS

Carlos Arreola, Sul Ross State, K, So., Kinesiology and Human Performance, Clint, Texas

Sul Ross State kicker Carlos Arreola drilled a 57-yard field goal – tying a program record and the longest in the conference this century – to help fuel a 33-28 win over Eastern New Mexico. Arreola also made a 47-yarder and was good on all three extra-point attempts. Both his field goals came in the second half. The 47-yarder got the Lobos to within 28-27 with 8:42 to play. The next longest field goals made in the LSC were 56-yarders in 2009 and 2001. The record is 69 yards by Abilene Christian's Ove Johansson in 1976.
