FOOTBALL: Six Lobos named to LSC All-Conference team

Six Sul Ross State football players were named to the Lone Star Conference's all-conference team.

Austin Ogunmakin, Brendon Martin, Quincy Blair, Xavier Garcia, Andrew Martinez and Carlos Arreola all earned honors.

>> AUSTIN OGUNMAKIN (FIRST TEAM OFFENSE):

Ogunmakin finished as the LSC's No. 1 receiver by yardage. He had 36 catches for 713 yards and two touchdowns.

In 11 games, he averaged 64.4 yards a game.

Ogunmakin had a season-high 167 receiving yards and 10 catches in a 34-20 win over Western New Mexico back on Oct. 19.

The performance surpassed his previous season-high of 150 receiving yards tallied against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sept. 28.

>> BRENDON MARTIN (SECOND TEAM DEFENSE):

Martin ranked second on the defense with 78 total tackles, 52 solo tackles and 26 assists. He also had 3.5 tackles for loss to go with his team-high three interceptions.

He finished eighth in the LSC in tackles and fourth in interceptions.

Martin also had two pass breakups and a forced fumble.

In the 52-51 overtime win over Wayland Baptist back on Sept. 14, he returned an interception for a 32-yard touchdown.

>> QUINCY BLAIR (SECOND TEAM DEFENSE):

Blair finishes with 302 career tackles as he enters the program's record book as the all-time career tackles leader.

He was just two tackles shy of the tying the record before he made nine tackles against Central Washington on Nov. 10 to etch his name in history.

The original record was 279 career tackles set by Ronin Williams in 2022.

Blair led the defense with 126 total tackles, 84 solo tackles and 42 assists. He also had 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception and two pass breakups as well as a forced fumble.

He finishes the season as the LSC leader in total tackles, solo tackles and assists.

Blair had a season-high 14 total tackles in the 33-28 win over Eastern New Mexico back on Nov. 2.

He earned statewide recognition after being named an All-Texas Non-FBS Player of the Week by Dave Campbell's Texas Football after his performance against ENMU.

>> XAVIER GARCIA (HONORABLE MENTION):

A two-sport standout, Garcia also stars on the Lobo baseball team.

The 6-foot-4 offensive lineman was one of 15 seniors in the program.

He helped the Lobo's become the fourth-best passing offense in the LSC with 2,266 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Garcia was recognized in 2023 by the American Southwest Conference as he earned first team offense honors at the Division III level.

>> ANDREW MARTINEZ (HONORABLE MENTION):

Martinez threw for 1,625 yards, completing 130 of 227 passes with 13 touchdowns in nine games played.

He completed 57% of his passes to compile a rating of 126.61.

Martinez tallied a season-high 343 passing yards with four touchdowns in the win over Wayland Baptist. He had five games where he threw two or more touchdowns.

On the ground, he rushed for 151 yards with two touchdowns on 76 carries.

Martinez ranked as the third-best quarterback in the LSC based on yards. He earned ASC honorable mention honors last fall.

>> CARLOS ARREOLA (HONORABLE MENTION):

Arreola and teammate Jordan Morales became the first student-athletes in the Division II era across the Sul Ross State athletic department to earn LSC Player of the Week recognition.

In the win over ENMU, Arreola made a 57-yard field goal to tie the program record while he also tallied the longest in the conference this century.

During that game, Arreola also made a 47-yarder while making all three extra-point attempts.

He finished the season 6 for 11 making two field goals in the 30-39-yard range and two in the 40-49-yard range.

Arreola also had 47 kickoffs for 2,797 yards with 16 touchbacks. He averaged 59.5 yards on kickoffs.

He ranked second on the team in scoring, tallying 47 points. He has six points off field goals and was 29 for 30 on extra-point attempts.

Arreola ranked seventh in the LSC in made field goals and seventh in scoring.

This is the second-straight year that Arreola earns all-conference honors. He was named first team offense by the ASC last fall.
