Only seven games remain for the Sul Ross State women's basketball team in what is the final season as an NCAA Division III program.
Four of the seven contests are played at home.
This week the Lobos return to the Pete P. Gallego Center to take on Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University on Thursday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 27.
>> THE LOBOS:
It has been an up and down season for the Lobos, but despite that their commitment and spirits are still strong.
As a team, Sul Ross State ranks fourth in total offense in the conference with 1,146 points, fourth in field goals made (415), fourth in made free throws (271), third in free throw percentage (73%), fifth in total rebounds (720), third in assists (251) and second in steals (213).
Marley Rokas is just 12 points away from tallying 800 career points. Rokas ranks fourth in the ASC in scoring, averaging 15.2 points a game.
She is also ninth in the ASC in rebounding (111), fifth in made field goals (95), third in made free throws (81) and fourth in free throw percentage (83%).
Rokas has recorded three double-doubles, two in her last two outings. She scored a game-high and team-high 23 points against LeTourneau on Jan. 6.
In addition, Rokas has the game-high mark for free throws made (11) and field goals made (nine).
Victoria Aguayo remains atop the conference leaderboard with 70 steals while she is tied for third in rebounding (133).
Aguayo is currently ranked seventh in the school record book for steals in a season. She is five away from tying Edna Ramos Parr who tallied 75 steals during the 1990-1991 season.
Her eight steals tallied against Whitworth on Nov. 10 and East Texas Baptist on Jan. 4 remain a game-high for the program this season.
The eight steals in a game are the fourth-highest mark recorded by a Lobo. The program record of 12 steals in a game is held by Holley Halbrooks (1997) and Brianna Martin (2023).
Aguayo also ranks fourth in minutes played (551) while Rokas is eighth with 531 minutes played.
Cheyanne Bonilla has 53 assists to rank fourth in the ASC. Bonilla leads the Lobos with 14 made three-pointers.
If the conference record counted this season, the Lobos would be sixth at 4-7 which is on the bubble for qualifying for the postseason.
>> SCOUTING HARDIN-SIMMONS:
Hardin-Simmons is one of two teams that is ranked nationally in the ASC.
The Cowgirls are tied for 15th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll while they are 19th in the d3hoops.com top 25.
Hardin-Simmons has won its last three games while it has averaged 87.3 points during that span.
Paris Kiser is the third-best scorer in the conference with 331 total points scored as she averages 18.4 a game.
Kiser's 34 made three-pointers are third-best in the ASC while her teammate Aiken Semones is second with 36 made three-pointers.
>> SCOUTING MCMURRY:
The War Hawks boast the No. 1 scorer in the ASC in Emily Holland who averages 18.4 points a game with 350 points scored.
Her 57 made three-pointers also lead the conference.
McMurry is 2-2 in its last four games which includes wins over Concordia and LeTourneau. Most recently, the War Hawks dropped a five-point game to East Texas Baptist.
>> CONFERENCE OUTLOOK:
Mary Hardin-Baylor remains perfect in ASC play at 9-0 while it rides a 16-game winning streak.
The Crusaders checked in at No. 15 in the d3hoops.com top 25 while they rank 17th in the WBCA poll.
Hardin-Simmons sits in second place with an 8-2 conference mark while McMurry is third at 7-3.
The University of Texas at Dallas ranks fourth with a 13-4 overall mark and 5-3 conference record.
