After two weeks on the road, the Sul Ross State football team is back home at Jackson Field for a meeting with the 20th ranked team in the nation.
Kickoff is at high noon between the Lobos and Hardin-Simmons University.
>> SERIES HISTORY:
Both programs first met in 1928 as the Cowboys won, 27-7.
The series was then put on hold for 62 years until both teams met again in 1990.
Hardin-Simmons has had the upper hand, leading the all-time series 35-3.
Sul Ross State's last win over the Cowboys was 10 years ago at Jackson Field.
The Lobos pulled off a shocking 42-38 victory on Nov. 2, 2013 to go 1-9 overall that season.
>> THE COWBOYS:
Hardin-Simmons is on a three-game win streak after it defeated Texas Lutheran last week, 27-22.
During the streak, the Cowboys defeated crosstown rival McMurry, 19-16, and Howard Payne, 40-33.
The lone loss was suffered to 19th ranked Endicott College, 37-10, on the road in Beverly, Mass.
Hardin-Simmons has been led under center by Gaylon Glynn who has 806 passing yards and six touchdowns this season.
Last week, Glynn completed 22 of 29 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns.
The Cowboys boast the best rushing attack in the American Southwest Conference with 1,233 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Noah Garcia and Colton Marshall lead the way with a combined 904 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
Garcia and Marshall sit atop the conference's individual leaderboard in rushing at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
The Cowboy defense has tallied five sacks, seven interceptions and 33 tackles for loss.
Hardin-Simmons is ranked 20th by d3football.com and No. 21 by the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll.
>> THE LOBOS:
Sul Ross State enters this week with the third-best passing offense in the conference as it boasts 1,402 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Isaiah Pena ranks as the third-best receiver in the ASC with 450 yards and four touchdowns.
Carlos Arreola is tied for third in scoring with 40 points. The freshman has made 19 extra points and seven field goals.
Arreola is tied for the most field goals made in the conference.
Defensively,
Jade Rios continues to lead the ASC with 59 total tackles and 37 solo tackles.
Quincy Blair is tied for fourth in the conference with two interceptions.
>> LOCAL CONNECTION:
Former multi-sport standout at Alpine High School, Tray Ervin, has been starring at linebacker for the Cowboys.
Ervin has 12 total tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss in five games played.

Homecoming is approaching fast, just 17 days away when the Lobos take on Howard Payne for the last home game of the 2023 season on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. CST.
