Covarrubiaz earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Korbin Covarrubiaz, QB, Fr., Sul Ross State
Sul Ross State freshman quarterback Korbin Covarrubiaz (Eldorado, Texas) was responsible for five touchdowns in the Lobos' 44-41 win over Southwestern. He completed 23 of 37 passes for 337 yards and four touchdowns. He also added seven carries for 33 yards and a touchdown.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Noah Garcia, RB, Fr., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons freshman running back Noah Garcia (Abilene Cooper) compiled 142 yards and scored two touchdowns on 11 rushing attempts in the Cowboys 45-16 victory over Texas Lutheran. Garcia had missed the last six games and his total yards rushing ranks third in a game by the American Southwest Conference teams this season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ronin Williams, LB, Sr., Sul Ross State
Sul Ross State senior linebacker Ronin Williams (Monahans, Texas) broke the school record for career tackles as he finishes with 279 total tackles. Williams tallied 17 total tackles with 12 solo tackles while also recording three tackles for loss and two sacks.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Anthony Avila, PK, Sr., Mary Hardin-Baylor
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior placekicker Anthony Avila (Troy, Texas) helped the Cru with two field goals and six extra-points. He totaled 12 points in the 62-3 win. He had a 28-yard field goal and 42-yard field goal (third-highest on season), went 6-for-6 on extra points, and on nine kickoffs totaled 540 yards (60.0 average). This is his fourth time this season to receive ASC Player of the Week and eighth time in his career.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
Offensive
Howard Payne senior wide receiver Otis Lanier (Houston, Texas) was the Yellow Jackets' top receiver with 10 catches for 94 yards and one TD. He pulled in a 12-yard TD pass with 33 seconds remaining in the game to give HPU a 23-20 lead. Lanier also played in the secondary to close out the game and pick off a pass as time expired to secure the victory for Howard Payne.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior quarterback Kyle King (Milano, Texas) led the Cru to a 62-3 win over McMurry this week. He threw for 212 yards and added 23 on the ground. He also faked a punt for a 16-yard rush and first down. King was 12-for-23 passing with two touchdowns. He took six rushing attempts with his longest being 16 yards and added a touchdown.  
 
East Texas Baptist freshman quarterback Cornelius Banks (Houston, Texas) rushed for one TD and threw for another TD in helping ETBU to a 43-6 win over North American. He rushed for 75 yards including a 33-yard touchdown run. He then had a 37-yard touchdown pass. Overall, he accounted for over half of ETBU's total offense. He added 9 for 15 passing and had 104 total yards in the air. He posted eight carries.
 
Southwestern sophomore wide receiver Mitchell Garrett (Mission, Texas) completed four receptions for 110 yards and scored a touchdown. His longest reception was 43 yards, which led all receivers in the game.

Defensive
Hardin-Simmons senior safety Jamel LaFond (Refugio, Texas) led the Cowboy defense with six tackles as HSU held TLU to 207 yards. He also added an interception.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior cornerback Chaka Watson (Orange, Texas) had 51-yard pick six against the War Hawks that contributed to a 62-3 victory. He added a tackle to go with the interception.
 
Howard Payne graduate student defensive back Kyle Bell (Cypress, Texas) led a Yellow Jacket defensive unit with 11 tackles. The Howard Payne defense held Austin College to just 216 total yards of offense, only 30 yards passing.
 
Southwestern senior defensive back Payton Vaughn (Azle, Texas) led the Pirates with 10 tackles and had six solo tackles. He also grabbed an interception and returned it for 20 yards.
 
Austin sophomore defensive back Jeremiah Contreras (Crandall, Texas) grabbed an interception and returned it for 30 yards. He also had eight tackles (five solo) and one pass breakup.

Special Teams
East Texas junior punt returner/kick returner Kristopher Creel (Bracketville, Texas) returned a 53-yard punt for a touchdown in the second quarter at 14:04 to make it 22-0. Had two punt returns for 57 yards.
 
Hardin-Simmons freshman kicker Grayson Bearden (Abilene, Texas) hit all six extra points and also had a 25-yard field goal for the first points of the game.
 
Texas Lutheran junior kicker Joaquin Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas) lofted a 49-yard field goal in his lone attempt and had an extra point kick to contribute four points in TLU's game at Hardin-Simmons.
 
Austin senior kicker John Aldridge (Richardson, Texas) went 2-for-3 on field goals with his longest being 48 yards. He also converted 2-for-2 on extra points and scored eight points in the 'Roos 23-20 setback to Howard Payne.
