Sully women wrap up season Saturday at HPU

With one game left in the regular season coach Aaron Tavitas and the Sul Ross women's basketball team will look to close out a campaign that saw several near-win situations.

Saturday's closer will tip off at 1:00 p.m. at the Brownwood Coliseum.

RECAP

Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) scored 11 points and Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) posted 10 rebounds as the Sul Ross women's basketball team dropped a 65-52 ASC game to Concordia in the Lady Lobos' final home contest of the season.

Sul Ross shot 39 percent from the field in Saturday's loss while hitting two of nine from outside the arc.

On Thursday Miles recorded a team high 11 points while Shannon Villanueva (San Raman, CA/California) added 10 as Sul Ross fell to visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor, 50-43.
Villanueva totaled seven rebounds to lead the team at the boards.

The Lady Lobos suffered a slow night's shooting converting just 15 of 52 from the field at 29 percent and hit just two of 13 from outside the curve. Both three-pointers came in the second half.

LAST MEETING: Jan. 30, 2016, HPU-68, SRSU-63

Jonette Jackson (Killeen/Shoemaker) tallied a double double 21 points and 16 rebounds as the Lady Lobos dropped a 68-63 decision to West Division leader Howard Payne to close out the month of January.

Villanueva nailed down 14 points in the effort and finished at a perfect four for four from the free throw line.

The Yellow Jackets took advantage of their bench outscoring Sul Ross by a 49-7 margin.

HPU TEAM NOTES
  • The Yellow Jackets lead the ASC West Division with records of 15-9 and 9-4.
  • HPU is off the heals of 68-58 setback to visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor last Saturday. The loss to the Crusaders broke a 10-game winning streak for the Jackets.
  • Howard Payne ranks third in the ASC in steals with 212 on the season averaging 10.6 steals per game.
  • The Yellow Jackets are ranked third in the league in converted three-point shots with 123 made three-pointer for the season.
  • Danyel Bradley is the second leading scorer in the conference averaging 19.3 points per contest.
  • HPU's Sarahi Castillo ranks 12 out of the top 20 rebounders in the ASC averaging 7.5 boards per game.
  • Bradley has the second highest field goal percentage in the conference at .502 (139-227).
  • Bradley is third in assists with a season total of 81 (4.1 pg).

  • The Lady Lobos are ranked fourth in three-point field goal percentage at 2.92.
  • Sully ranks third in rebounding defense averaging 39.3 defensive boards per contest.
  • Miles sits at 13 out of the ASC's top 30 scorers averaging 13 points per game.
  • Ousley ranks sixth out of the top 15 assist producers averaging 3.6 assists per game.
  • Miles is the third leading stealer out of the ASC's top 15 with 53 (2.7 per game).
  • Out of the top 15 offensive rebounders Miles sits at No. 5 averaging three offensive boards per contest.
