SRSU Stats Sul Ross (3-8, 0-3 ASC) will tip off the new year with their longest road trip of the season as the Lady Lobos journey to Clarksville, Arkansas January 2 to battle University of the Ozarks at 1:00 p.m. Sully will then head south for a January 4 outing with U.T. Dallas at 12:00 p.m.
Sul Ross fell in two heartbreaking decisions to close out 2015.
Following a 79-74 non conference setback at University of the Southwest on December 16 the Lady Lobos dropped a 55-52 conference decision to visiting Louisiana College on December 19.
Sully's last three losses have been by margins of five or less.
RECAPIn the game against USW, Desare Allen (Midland/MHS) posted a double double 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jonette Jackson (Killeen/Shoemaker) and Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) saddled 16 and 10 points respectively in the effort.
The Lady Lobos recorded one of their better shooting performances of the season nailing 26 of 56 shots from the field at 47 percent but hit only one shot of 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
Sul Ross then fell three days later to Louisiana College, 55-52 in a contest that saw the Lady Lobos surrender a 28-23 lead at intermission.
Shannon Villanueva (San Raman, CA) scored 16 points while Jackson added 15 in the effort.
Miles saddled 13 rebounds and was a point short of a double double for the afternoon with nine points.
For the game, Sul Ross connected on 19 of 51 shots from the floor at 37 percent.
The Wildcats won the fast break battle by a 16-4 margin and outscored the Lady Lobos in points off the bench, 23-16.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES AND COMETSOzarks has only five games under its belt and sits at 3-2 on the season with a conference mark of 0-1.
The Eagles last competition came on December 5 in a 67-57 ASC home loss to the Comets. Bryanna Moltz was a rebound shy of a double double with 17 points and nine boards.
Moltz leads the team in scoring averaging 17.4 points per game and serves as the top rebounder averaging 8.8 boards per contest.
Moltz scored a season high 30 points and posted 14 rebounds in an 88-81 win at Bacone College on November 20.
Ashley Hipps is also averaging double figures in scoring with 15 points per game.
U.T. Dallas sports an impressive 6-1 record (1-0, ASC) following a 50-44 victory over Southwestern on December 18.
Nicolette Erkman led the Comets in that game with 12 points.
Individually Micaela Gonzalez is the only player for UTD averaging double figure scoring with 12 points per contest. She also leads the team at the boards averaging 8.9 rebounds per game. She scored a season best 21 points and 15 rebounds in an 83-65 win at Kean University of November 21.
UTD's lone loss came on November 24 in a 75-46 decision at the University of Chicago. Gonzalez led the team in that game with 12 points.
Current conference standings show U.T. Dallas sitting in third place in the ASC East while Ozarks finds themselves in last place.
The Lady Lobos also find themselves in last place in the Conference West looking for their first league win.
SRSU TEAM NOTESKenya Miles continues to lead the Pack in scoring averaging 11.6 points per game and is team leader in rebounds with a 6.8 rpg average.
Jackson is offering solid support at the boards and has combined for 31 points in her last two outings.
Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) leads in assists with 33 on the season and has combined for 13 assists over her last three games.
As a team, Sul Ross has been outscored by its opponents by a 736-634 margin.
