PHOTO GALLERYSAN ANTONIO- Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) totaled 10 points, eight rebounds and five steals as the Sul Ross Lady Lobos dropped a 54-35 decision to NCAA Division I University of the Incarnate Word in a Thursday exhibition contest.
Turnovers spelled Sully's undoing as the Lady Lobos lost the ball 31 times. Sul Ross also struggled from the floor converting just 13 of 43 shots at 30 percent.
The Lady Lobos continue to see improvement at the free throw line as Sul Ross finished at an impressive seven of eight from the stripe or 88 percent.
"We're so proud of our team's effort tonight against a Division 1 opponent ," said coach Aaron Tavitas. "We showed toughness on all aspects of the game.
Incarnate Word led the entire outing including a 29-13 advantage at intermission.
Sul Ross ended the game on a 4-0 run which was culminated by a fast break layup by Mia Ochoa (Levelland/Whitharral) with under 15 seconds remaining in the game.
"We made a big run late in the game to cut the lead to 13 points," said Tavitas. "This was a big momentum booster for us as we go forward to next weekend's games."
The Lady Lobos will head west to face Arizona Christian and Northern New Mexico College in tournament action in Phoenix November 27 and 28.
