QUOTES FROM COACH JOHN PEARCE
  • Thoughts on win over McMurry and renewing the 92-year old rivalry: "Our effort throughout the game was there just like it has been all season. We just eliminated some key mistakes by not giving up big plays, giving our defense a chance to play well through better ball security from our offense and just an overall mental toughness to see things through in critical situations. We're excited that McMurry is back in the ASC and hope to keep this long standing rivalry going for a long time."
  • On McMurry's performance coming back into Division III: "No question they're a talented ball club. They have some scholarship-quality runners who are capable of breaking out for some big gains. Fortunately we were able to pull our defense together and limit their big play production. Again or offense helped out with much the defense's success with improved ball control."
  • On special teams:  "Our kickoff coverage was much better and we're going to need that against ETBU. I'm pleased with the overall effort of containment and just seeing our guys flying down the field and making stops deep in the opponent's end of the field."
  • On injuries and health of the team heading into week 8: "We have one of our defensive starters out with a concussion so will have to seal up that hole at the linebacker position. Really we're just taking things one a day-by-day basis with our other players. Our intensity has been good in practice which is one of the signs of a healthy team. We've played two to three teams in the top 20 this season and our injuries, thankfully, have been very limited."
  • On ETBU and keys to a homecoming victory: "We have to stop they're run. That sounds so routine to say that but we play in a conference where people love to run the ball. They aren't as big and physical as Mary Hardin-Baylor. They have a little more finesse in their approach but they're still very hard to defend against the rush. We'll need to tighten up the red zone and of course limit our limit penalties and eliminate turnovers."
