Sul Ross State Athletic Compliance

Welcome to the Sul Ross State University Department of Athletics Compliance information page. Compliance with NCAA rules is of the highest priority for our program and institution. As a member of the NCAA and Lone Star Conference, Sul Ross State is responsible for the actions of its coaches, student-athletes, faculty and staff, fans, boosters, alumni and friends. We value your interest and support, but we must remind you that an inappropriate action on your part can jeopardize the eligibility of a student-athlete, prospective student-athlete and/or the overall compliance of the university with Lone Star Conference and NCAA regulations.

Sul Ross State has been accepted into the NCAA Division II membership process and is in their second year of a three-year transition process. Sul Ross State has been accepted to be a member of the Lone Star Conference. The following is a timeline for progressing through the Division II Membership Process:

2023-24 - Year One of Provisional Membership 
Sul Ross State will continue to compete in NCAA Division III while implementing and complying with relevant NCAA Division II Rules and Regulations.

2024-25 - Year Two of Provisional Membership
Sul Ross State will be in full compliance with NCAA DII legislation. The Lobos will compete as a member of the Lone Star Conference and will be eligible for Lone Star Championships. Sul Ross State will not be eligible for any Lone Star Conference tournaments or NCAA DII postseason competition during this year.

2025-26 - Year Three of Provisional Membership
Sul Ross State will be in full compliance with NCAA DII legislation. The Lobos will compete as a member of the Lone Star Conference and will be eligible for Lone Star Championships. Sul Ross State will not be eligible for any Lone Star Conference tournaments or NCAA DII postseason competition during this year.

2026-27 -  Full NCAA Division II and Lone Star Conference Membership
Sul Ross State will be in full compliance with NCAA DII legislation.  Provided Sul Ross State has met all expectations in the NCAA DII Provisional Membership Process, the Lobos will compete as a full member of the Lone Star Conference, and will be eligible for Lone Star Championships as well as Lone Star Conference Tournaments and NCAA DII postseason competition.
