Lobos Finish Up In Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Freshman Antyiahna Lang had 21 kills in two matches as the Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-8) closed out Volley in the Valley, Saturday at Brownson Arena.

Fairmont State (5-3) L, 3-1 (25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 25-8)
In the first set, Fairmont State and Sul Ross State went back-and-forth until 8-7, Falcons.  FSU went on a 6-1 run to take control.

In the second set, Fairmont State was in control almost all of the way.  The Lobos, down 24-18, dug deep and fought off five set points.

SRSU forced an error to make it 24-23.  The Falcons got a kill to finally close out the set.  

In the third set, FSU and Sul Ross State were never able to really break free of the other.  Tied at 21, the Lobos put together four straight points to take the set.

In the fourth set, Fairmont State got off to an 8-1 start to effectively end the match.

For Sul Ross State, Lang lead the way with 14 kills.  Sophomore Violetta Flores had three aces and 12 digs while junior Emily Scott recorded 13 digs.  At the net, freshman Madelyn Patterson had four block assists and junior Anayah Sinclair had three.

For Fairmont State, Kailyn Connelly had 12 kills.

Fort Hays State (7-2) – L, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-25)
In the first set, senior Mia Espinoza smashed the ball off the block.  That cut the gap to 5-4.  Fort Hays State reeled off an 8-2 burst to effectively end the set.

In the second set, down 12-8, Sul Ross State caught fire.  Junior Novah Carrasco served up and ace.

That ended a 5-1 run and tied the game at 13-13.  The teams traded points for a long spell.

Carrasco found the back corner to make it 22-21, Tigers.  FHSU scored the next three points to take the set.

In the third set, Fort Hays State started out 11-2 to take control.

For Sul Ross State, Scott collected 10 digs.

For Fort Hays State, Hope Duncan had 10 digs.

Sul Ross State is back on the road, Sept. 10 taking on Texas A&M International.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
