Lobos Swing Away With Dustdevils

LAREDO, Texas – The Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-9) lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-13) to Texas A&M International (5-5) in the LSC Challenge Weekend, Thursday night at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.

In the first set, Texas A&M International and Sul Ross State slugged it out in the early going.  Junior Libby Foster smashed the ball down to the floor off a set from sophomore Violetta Flores.

That closed the margin to one, 11-10.  The Dustdevils went on a 5-2 run to take control.

In the second set, TAMIU and the Lobos traded points early.  Foster and freshman Mary Raygoza stuffed the International hitter.

That tied the set at 5-5.  Texas A&M International reeled off a 10-4 burst to pull free.  

In the third set, SRSU forced an error to take a 3-2 lead.  The Dustdevils went on an 11-2 run to effectively seal the match.

For Sul Ross State, Foster had seven kills, recorded two block assists and hit .333.

For Texas A&M International, Mia Molina had 10 kills.

Sul Ross State remains in Laredo, Friday, Sept. 11 playing Eastern New Mexico.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
