Lobos Swing Away In Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-6) opened up Volley in the Valley, Friday at Brownson Arena.

Colorado Mesa (RV) (3-2) L, 3-0 (25-5, 25-19, 25-14)
In the first set, Colorado Mesa scored the first eight points to effectively end the set.

In the second set, the Mavericks got off to a 7-0 start and looked to be in control.  Sul Ross State began to fight back with a 10-8 run.

The Lobos forced an error to make it 15-10.  CMU scored four straight to turn back SRSU.  

In the third set, junior Libby Foster smashed the ball off the block to make it 4-3, Colorado Mesa.  The Mavericks went on a 5-1 burst to take control.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Antyiahna Lang had seven kills and hit .500.

For Colorado Mesa, Karsen Breeding had eight kills.

Adams State (2-5) – L, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-20)
In the first set, Adams State and Sul Ross State battled on even terms.  Lang smashed the ball right down the middle to put the Lobos up 13-10.

The Grizzlies scored three straight to make it 13-13.  SRSU and ASU traded points until 19-18, Adams State.  The Grizzlies scored four straight to hold off Sul Ross State.

In the second set, the Lobos and ASU played a tight match.  Up 14-11, Adams State went on an 8-1 run to effectively end the set.

In the third set, senior Katrin Hardardottir and freshman Madelyn Patterson stuffed the ASU hitter.  That closed the gap to 6-5.  The Grizzlies went on an 11-1 burst to close it out.

For Sul Ross State, Patterson hit .545 and had three total blocks.

For Adams State, Sienna Markovich had 18 kills.

Sul Ross State closes out the tournament, Saturday, Sept. 5 playing Fairmont State and Fort Hays State.  The matches are scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. MT, respectively.
