Lobos Battle It Out With Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-3 LSC, 0-13) lost 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-23) to Texas A&M Kingsville (4-0 LSC, 11-4), Friday evening at the Steinke Center.

In the first set, Texas A&M Kingsville came out fast, taking the lead at 12-3.  Sul Ross State dug in and fired back.

Junior McKenzie Hart and freshman Antyiahna Lang stuffed the Javelina hitter.  That closed out a 7-2 run to make it 14-10.  TAMUK went on a 4-2 run to take control.

In the second set, Texas A&M Kingsville jumped out 7-2 to effectively end the set.

In the third set, the Lobos and Javelinas slugged it out until 8-8.  Junior Anayah Sinclair fired the ball down the middle to start a run of four straight points to put SRSU up 12-8.

TAMUK returned the favor with four straight to make it 12-12.  Sul Ross State and Texas A&M Kingsville traded points until 19-19.

Senior Mia Espinoza notched an ace and junior Brianna Galvan and Sinclair combined for a block.  That put the Lobos up 21-19.

The Javelinas reeled off a 5-1 run to lead 24-22.  SRSU forced an error to pull to one.  TAMUK got the next point to end the match.

For Sul Ross State, Lang had eight kills and Espinoza collected nine digs.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Cambelle Brammer had 17 kills.

Sul Ross State stays on the road, Saturday, Sept. 26 taking on Texas A&M International.  The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
