Lobos Put Up A Fight With Pioneers

DENTON, Texas – It was 90 minutes of heart and hustle as the Sul Ross State University women's soccer team (0-3-1 Lone Star Conference, 0-5-2) lost 2-0 to #16 Texas Woman's (4-0 LSC, 8-0), Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Soccer Park.

In the first half, freshman Kat Graves made several great saves to frustrate Texas Woman's.  The Pioneers finally snuck one through with 19:11 left in the first half.

About six minutes into the second half, Sul Ross State had a shot stopped by a tough save.  TWU scored an insurance goal at the 62:51 mark.  The Lobos refused to quit and saw two strong opportunities stopped by nice plays from the TWU keeper.

Graves finished with a career-high 12 saves.

"A 2-0 result against the #16 team nation is not a bad result, but it is not something we are satisfied with.  In the first half, we gave them too much time and space to think and play, and they punished us for it.  We were much better as a group in the second half, but we cannot wait 45 minutes to find our standard.  Offensively we were not good enough today and did not create enough.  Against the top teams in the Lone Star, our standard has to be there from the first whistle."

Sul Ross State hits the road, Wednesday, Sept. 23 taking on Oklahoma Christian.  The game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
