Lobos And Falcons Fight To A Split

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University softball team (5-23 Lone Star Conference, 7-28) split with The University of Texas Permian Basin (5-21 LSC, 14-23), Friday afternoon at UTPB Softball Park.  UTPB won 4-0 before the Lobos took the nightcap 5-4.

Game-1
UTPB had a 2-0 lead after four innings, then sealed the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Jaclyn Pate (2-11) gave up eight hits, four runs, walked one and struck out two in six innings.

For UT Permian Basin, Jessica Cantrell (9-7) threw a two-hitter with a walk and seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Game-2
In the night cap, in the third inning, sophomore Alexandra Ramos reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on back-to-back wild pitches.  Senior Elizabeth Clemente singled to score Ramos.

In the fourth inning, Sul Ross State used four hits to score two runs to go up 3-0.  The Falcons would score three runs in the bottom half to tie the game at 3-3.

In the fifth inning, freshman Baylie Savage and sophomore Andrea Apodaca scored to make it 5-3, Lobos. In the bottom of the seventh inning, UTPB led off with a home run.  SRSU got the next three batters out to take the win.

For Sul Ross State, five players had two hits each.  Freshman Addison Castilleja (3-5) gave up seven hits, four runs, walked one and struck out six in seven innings.

For UT Permian Basin, Priscilla Medina (3-11) gave up 10 hits, five runs with four earned. Waked one and struck out two in 4.7 innings.

Sul Ross State remains on the road, Sunday, Apr. 12, playing Angelo State.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
