Sul Ross State Adds To The Foundation

ALPINE, Texas – The 2025-26 Sul Ross State University men's basketball team never stopped hustling.  The Lobos had five Top 10 Lone Star Conference (LSC) individual rankings, an LSC Player of the Week, a triple-double and seven additions to the record book.

Sul Ross State faced a loaded schedule as seven opponents qualified for the NCAA Regionals.  Dallas Baptist reached the regional championship while Black Hills State got to the Quarterfinals.  The schedule ended up being the fifth toughest in NCAA Division II

Sul Ross State beat Angelo State (Nov. 20) and Midwestern State (Feb. 26)  for the first time in NCAA program history.  The Lobos also recorded its 300th career victory with a 66-41 win over Texas A&M International (Jan. 29).  SRSU closed the season just missing an upset at the buzzer, 69-67 to #9 Lubbock Christian.

On Feb. 26, Camren Roper had 16 points, 11 assists and 14 rebounds in an 80-64 victory over Midwestern State.  It was the first triple-double in NCAA program history.

Sul Ross State head coach Xavier Webb
"I am proud of this group and the accomplishments we earned this season. We took a big positive step as a program in the last year of our transitional period in Division II athletics. This grouped played hard, tough, and together. It really showed on the defensive end as we held over 90% of the D2 teams under their team averages and held multiple leading scorers under their averages and percentages. We were tough defensively and that takes commitment and togetherness to accomplish.  We have a very strong core returning who are both hungry and working to take the next giant leap in our first full season of Division 2 athletics. To have them return in the world we live in with the transfer portal is a true testament of belief in what we are doing here as a men's basketball program. One of my favorite quotes from a successful coach I always enjoyed watching and learning from is Craig Bohl "First you must learn how to compete. Then you learn how to win." This Lobo team set the foundation of how to compete in this league. And because of that we get the great opportunity to move on to the next step in our LSC journey. Viva Los Lobos!"
