Lobos Fall Short Of Rattlers

ALPINE, Texas – A furious rally fell short as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-14 Lone Star Conference, 4-18) lost 80-73 to St. Mary's (Texas) (11-6 LSC, 18-7), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

St. Mary's scored the first seven points of the game and kept the pressure up.  The Rattlers led 37-23 at halftime.

In the second half, down 70-56 at the 6:54 mark, Sul Ross State began to fire back.  Junior Camren Roper hit a free throw to end a 14-5 run.

That made it 75-70 with 1:18 to go.  SMU held off the Lobos the rest of the way. 

The Lobos were sizzling on 3-pointers shooting 42.9%.

For Sul Ross State, junior Antwonne Holmes had 26 points with three triples, Roper had 14 points, nine assists and three steals and junior Tim Mikhailov scored 14 points with two treys.

For St. Mary's, Justin Britt had 15 points.

Sul Ross State closes out the home season, Saturday, Feb. 21, playing #14 St. Edward's.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
