Lobos Battle Rams in Saturday Doubleheader

Alpine, Texas — The Sul Ross State University Baseball team (1–8, 1–8 LSC) continued Lone Star Conference play Saturday against No. 9-ranked San Angelo State University (6–3, 6–3 LSC) at Kokernot Field, falling 18–11 in Game 2 and 4–2 in Game 3 of the doubleheader.

In Game 2, the Lobos showcased explosive offensive production, scoring 11 runs on 11 hits and jumping out to a four-run first inning. Max Wiggins and Joseph Binder delivered back-to-back home runs in the opening frame to set the tone, with Binder finishing a perfect 3-for-3 performance that included two home runs and two RBIs. Jayden Hernandez drove in two runs, while Sul Ross continued to apply pressure throughout the lineup. On the mound, Gage Cobb battled through the start and kept the Lobos competitive early as the teams traded runs in the opening frames.

Game 3 saw the Lobos battle in a tightly contested matchup, keeping the game within reach throughout. Sul Ross scored in the first and third innings, with Leo Salas leading the offense by going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Jayden Hernandez and Joseph Binder each crossed the plate. On the mound, Isaac Lopez delivered a strong complete-game effort in the third game of the four-game series, working seven innings with seven strikeouts and giving the Lobos a chance against a nationally ranked opponent.

The Lobos continue the four-game Lone Star Conference series on Sunday, February 15, with Game 4 scheduled for a 1:00 PM first pitch at Kokernot Field in Alpine, Texas.
