Alpine, Texas — The Sul Ross State University Baseball team (1–6, 1–6 LSC) opened its four-game Lone Star Conference series against No. 9-ranked San Angelo State University (4–3, 4–3 LSC) on Friday afternoon at Kokernot Field, dropping the series opener 13–1.
Offensively, the Lobos recorded six hits in the contest, led by Jo Binder, who finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Alfonso Lopez and Leo Salas each added a hit, with Salas doubling on the afternoon, while Sul Ross remained aggressive on the basepaths. The Lobos broke through in the bottom of the ninth inning as Jayden Hernandez came around to score on a wild pitch to avoid the shutout. On the mound, Taven Hathaway made the start, with Jacob Schwope, Juan Arredondo, and Ramon Nunez combining in relief.
The Lobos return to action Saturday with a Lone Star Conference doubleheader against the Rams, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM at Kokernot Field.
