Lobos Host Greyhounds At Jackson Field

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University football team (0-2 Lone Star Conference, 1-3) is home against Eastern New Mexico (0-2 LSC, 0-4), Saturday, Oct. 3 at Jackson Field.

EASTERN NEW MEXICO - 7:00 p.m.
Offensively, the Greyhounds are led by Jake South who has thrown for 129 yards a game and Jose Trevino (260 yards in all purpose yards, four touchdowns,  For the defense, Matthew Quartieri has 20 solo tackles with 18 assists for 38 total tackles.

ENMU leads the series 5-0.

LAST WEEK
Sul Ross State put up a tough battle in a 61-22 loss to  #9 (D2football.com) Central Washington,  Sept. 26 at Tomlinson Stadium.

Marcos Garcia hit a field goal to make it 23-16, Central Washington with 6:50 to go in the first half.  The Wildcats scored twice over the next 3 and one-half minutes to take control.

On offense, Will Howell threw two touchdown passes and ran for one and finished with 192 yards in total offense.  Ronald Bell had a touchdown catch. 

Defensively, SRSU held the Wildcats to 177 yards in the air, 82 yards below their average.  Grant Williams had five solo tackles with eight assists for 13 total tackles.  Jaeden Servantez broke up four passes, giving him six over the last two games.

LONE STAR RANKINGS 
Sul Ross State is among the top three in the LSC for team in kick returns (2nd – 28.40 yards per return), punt returns (2nd – 12.25 yards per return) and pass defense (3rd – 189.5 yards per game).

Individually, SRSU has 26 rankings in the top 10.  Leading the conference is Kyree Payton in Kick Return Average (41.50) and Jaeden Servantez in Passes Defended (2.0 per game).

LONE STAR PLAYERS OF THE WEEK 
Week 0 - Kyree Payton (Special Teams) returned two kickoffs for 113 yards vs. Wayland Baptist (Aug. 29).  He returned one 90 yards for a touchdown.  His second return was 23 yards and lead to a Lobo touchdown.

Week 1 - Will Howell (Offense) had a strong performance in leading Sul Ross State to a 53-26 win over Adams State (Sept. 5).  He was 24-of-39 for 423 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 31 yards and a score to total 454 yards in total offense.

MR. KICKOFF RETURN
In two seasons, Kyree Payton has returned 29 kickoffs for 850 yards and two touchdowns.  He is ranked fourth in career yards.  Payton is one of only two players in NCAA program history to return two or more for touchdowns in a career.
