Lobos And Mustangs Clash At Jackson

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University football team (1-3 Lone Star Conference, 2-4) takes on Western New Mexico (1-3 LSC, 2-4), Saturday, Oct. 17 at Jackson Field.

WESTRN NEW MEXICO - 7:00 p.m.
Offensively, the Mustangs are led by Devon Nafoa-Masoe who is rushing for 142 yards a game with five touchdowns. Defensively, Clayton Zentner has 53 solo tackles with 26 assists for 79 total tackles and seven tackles for a loss.

WNMU leads the series 9-1.

LAST WEEK
Sul Ross State lost 64-0 to Angelo State, Oct. 10 at LeGrand Stadium.

Offensively, Will Howell was 21-of-38 for 204 yards, his fourth 200+ yard passing game this season. Kyree Payton returned five kickoffs for 103 yards. He now has 953 career KO return yards, third best in NCAA program history.

Defensively, Byron Carter had 10 solo tackles with an assist for 11 total tackles. Jaeden Servantez had five solo tackles with two assists for seven total tackles and added two tackles for a loss and two sacks.

LONE STAR RANKINGS
Sul Ross State is among the top three in the LSC in seven categories. The Lobos lead in pass defense (180.80 yards per game).

Individually, SRSU has 25 rankings in the top 10. Leading the conference is Kyree Payton in Kick Return Average (30.25).

Week 0 - Kyree Payton (Special Teams) returned two kickoffs for 113 yards vs. Wayland Baptist (Aug. 29). He returned one 90 yards for a touchdown. His second return was 23 yards and lead to a Lobo touchdown.

Week 1 - Will Howell (Offense) had a strong performance in leading Sul Ross State to a 53-26 win over Adams State (Sept. 5). He was 24-of-39 for 423 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 31 yards and a score to total 454 yards in total offense.

Week 5 - Will Howell (Offense) Howell had a strong performance in leading Sul Ross State to a 56-43 win over Eastern New Mexico (Oct. 3). He was 37-of-46 for 454 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 82 yards and two touchdowns to total 536 yards in total offense. Howell's total offense is third best in NCAA program history.

MR. KICKOFF RETURN
In two seasons, Kyree Payton has returned 35 kickoffs for 953 yards and two touchdowns. He is ranked third in career yards. Payton is one of only two players in NCAA program history to return two or more for touchdowns in a career.
