Lobos Sweep Dustdevils Out Of Gallego

ALPINE, Texas – It was a milestone victory as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-9 Lone Star Conference, 4-12) beat Texas A&M International (4-7 LSC, 7-12) 66-41, Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.  This was the 300th win at the NCAA level for SRSU.

For the entire first half, Sul Ross State and Texas A&M International played like it was a championship chess match.  The lead was three points or less, either way, for all but three minutes.  The Dustdevils led 18-16 at intermission.

In the second half, the first six minutes were played the same way.  The Lobos took the lead, 40-34 at the 8:06 mark.

Junior Camren Roper made a tough shot in the paint.  That started a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to seal the game.

The Lobos locked down the TAMIU basket.  The Dustdevils shot just 24.5% from the floor and 7.1% on 3-pointers.  SRSU also pulled down 30 defensive boards to 12 offensive for TAMIU.

For Sul Ross State, junior Antwonne Holmes had 14 points and two steals, freshman Julien Barclay had 13 points and two steals and senior Christian Nevarez scored 11 points.  Roper had 11 points, eight assists, seven rebounds (all defensive) and five steals.

Sul Ross State stays home, Saturday, Jan. 31 taking on Texas A&M Kingsville.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
