Lobos Fall In Tough Battle To Javelinas

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-10 Lone Star Conference, 4-13) lost 70-64 to Texas A&M Kingsville (7-5 LSC, 10-10), Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

In the first half, Texas A&M Kingsville got out to a 13-5 lead at the 14:30 mark.  Sul Ross State began to chip away.

Junior Ernests Locmelis knocked down a triple from the stratosphere.  That put the Lobos up 18-17 with 7:32 left.  SRSU and the Javelinas went back-and-forth the rest of the half.  TAMKU led 32-30 at the break.

In the second half, Locmelis knocked down another long range bomb.  That made it 45-42, Sul Ross State at the 11:44 mark.

Texas A&M Kingsville then went on a 13-6 run to lead 55-48 with 8:39 to go.  The Lobos refused to quit and pulled off a 12-5 burst.

A pair of free throws from freshman Steph Yosia made it 60-60 at the 4:44 mark.  The Javelinas scored eight straight points to take control.

The Lobos held TAMUK to just 15.4% on 3-pointers, the third straight game that an opponent shot under .250.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Julien Barclay had 16 points and four steals and junior Camren Roper had eight assists, six rebounds (all defensive) and six steals.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Bryson Goldsmith had 17 points and five assists.

Sul Ross State hits the road, Thursday, Feb. 5 taking on UT Permian Basin.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
