Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lobos Declaw The Grizzlies

LAREDO, Texas – Three school records were broken or tied as the Sul Ross State University men's soccer team (1-2) beat Adams State (0-2) 8-0, Friday afternoon at Dustdevil Soccer Field.

For the first 22 minutes, Sul Ross State and Adams State played a very tactical game.  At the 22:42 mark, senior Caleb Castano scored off a pass from sophomore Diego Hernandez.

That made it 1-0, Lobos.  In a three-minute span starting with 15 minutes left, SRSU scored three goals to effectively seal the game.

Sul Ross State Head Coach Bailey Guffin
"Happy to get the first win of the season. We were eager to get back on track from last weekend.  Always nice to see different goal scorers and young players step up. Now we're focused on the next game to get the six points back from the Colorado trip."

Sul Ross State had 24 shots with 12 on goal, six corner kicks and were called for 10 fouls.  The Lobos set the school record for goals, total points (20) and tied the record for assists (4).  Castano scored two goals and the squad had six other players with a goal each.  Hernandez finished with two assists.

Graduate student Isaac Poole continued his dominance over Adams State.  He recorded the 3-0 win last year and now has gone 180 minutes against ASU without giving up a goal.

Adams State had seven shots and were called for 12 fouls.

Sul Ross State stays in Laredo, Sunday, Sept. 14, playing Jamestown.  The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
