Lobos Blank The Jimmies

LAREDO, Texas – A milestone victory was achieved as the Sul Ross State University men's soccer team (2-2) beat Jamestown (1-3) 3-0, Sunday morning at Dustdevil Soccer Field.

Solid defense from Sul Ross State and Jamestown prevented very few chances for the first 39 minutes.  At the 39:02 mark, senior Lewis Coates fired a pass to junior Jose Ramos.

Ramos turned and fired the ball into the twine to make it 1-0.  The Lobos scored an insurance goal with 3:34 to go in the first half.

"Happy to end the weekend with six points and two clean sheets. Congrats to all of the guys who earned their first goals & minutes for us.  We played a lot of players this weekend and everyone did their job.  We expect two really tough tests in Richardson next weekend."

Sul Ross State had nine shots with six on goal, four corner kicks and were called for seven fouls.  Graduate student Isaac Poole picked up his second straight shutout.  With the victory, Bailey Guffin becomes the all-time winningest coach in program history.

Jamestown had four shots with two on goal, six corner kicks and were called for 18 fouls.

Sul Ross State keeps to the road, Thursday, Sept. 18, playing Texas A&M International.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
