Lobos See Falcons Fly Away

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University baseball team (4-42) lost 16-5 to The University of Texas Permian Basin (18-28), Monday at Kokernot Field.

UTPB took a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.  Senior Estevan Ortiz singled and went to second on a wild pitch.  Junior Joseph Binder was hit by a pitch.

A single by junior Chris Ulloa loaded the bases.  Freshman Adan Velasquez drew a walk to score Ortiz.  A sacrifice fly scored Binder and moved Ulloa to third.

A failed pickoff attempt allowed Ulloa and Velasquez to both score.  Sophomore Rene Ramos blasted a home run to left field to put the Lobos up 5-4.

UTPB scored seven runs in the third inning to take control.

For Sul Ross State, Ortiz had two hits.  Junior Christian Loveless (0-6) gave up four hits, seven runs with none earned and walked two in in two-thirds of an inning.

For UT Permian Basin, Taven Hathaway (1-1) struck out two in 1.3 innings..

Sul Ross State remains home, Apr. 25 when they play Oklahoma Christian.  The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
