Lobos Run With Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Junior Elizabeth Clemente had four hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (7-31 Lone Star Conference, 10-37) lost 4-2 and 9-1 to Midwestern State (14-24 LSC, 17-30), Wednesday at Mustangs Park.

Game 1
The Mustangs looked to be in control with a 4-0 lead after four innings.  In the top of the fifth, senior Jasmine Garcia doubled and moved to third on a ground out.

Freshman Jenna Leanos walked; she and Garcia pulled off a double steal to make it 4-1.  Junior Tori Owens singled to score Leanos cutting the gap to 4-2.  MSU held the Lobos off over the last two innings.

For Sul Ross State, Clemente had three hits while senior Ciera Avila had two.  Junior Leanza Chambers (2-16) gave up six hits, four runs and walked three in four innings.

For Midwestern State, Addison Lindemann (7-15) gave up eight hits, two runs, walked two and struck out three in seven innings.

Game 2
In the second inning, a hit, error on a sacrifice bunt and wild pitch put Clemente at third and sophomore Samantha Bustos at second.  A ground out scored Clemente.

The Mustangs scored seven runs over the next two innings to seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, Owens had two hits.  Senior Alyvia Quintana (5-13) gave up 10 hits, seven runs with five earned and walked one in four innings.

For Midwestern State, Kayleigh Bowers (5-6) gave up five hits, one run, walked two and struck out two in five innings.

Sul Ross State remains on the road, Friday, Apr. 18 playing West Texas A&M.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
