Sul Ross State Tangles With Lady Buffs

CANYON, Texas – The Sul Ross State University softball team (7-33 Lone Star Conference, 10-39) lost 12-0 and 5-0 to #1 West Texas A&M (38-2 LSC, 48-2), Friday at Schaeffer Park.

Game 1
The Lady Buffs scored six runs over the first two innings to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, junior Leanza Chambers (2-17) gave up seven hits, nine runs with six earned, walked five and struck out one in two innings.

For West Texas A&M, Heidi Vortherms (16-1) threw a one-hitter with a walk and three strikeouts over five innings.

Game 2
WTAM scored three runs in the first inning. The Lady Buffs held the Lobos off the rest of the way.

For Sul Ross State, senior Alyvia Quintana (5-14) gave up eight hits, five runs with four earned, walked seven and struck out four in six innings.

For West Texas A&M, Emilee Boyer (24-1) gave up two hits, walked one and struck out 13 in seven innings.

Sul Ross State returns home, Friday, Apr. 25, taking on Western New Mexico.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
