Lobos Wrap Up Series With Patriots

TYLER, Texas – A school record fell as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (3-41 Lone Star Conference, 4-41) lost 18-3 to #7 UT Tyler (32-8 LSC, 33-9), Sunday at Irwin Field.

In the first inning, freshman Adan Velasquez singled and stole second.  Fifth year player Primo Vasquez walked and a double steal put runners at second and third.

A ground out scored Velasquez and a single from junior Corbin Montayne pushed Vasquez across the plate.  That made it 2-0, Lobos.

The Patriots scored two runs in the bottom half to make it 2-2.  UTT scored nine runs in the third inning to break the game open.

For Sul Ross State, junior Noah Tofan (1-3) gave up nine hits, 11 runs with ten earned and walked four in two innings.  The Lobos stole three bases to push their season total to 82, breaking the record of 81, held for 26 years.

For UT Tyler, Jacob Hadden (4-1) gave up one hit and struck out two in 3.3 innings.

Sul Ross State is off until Monday, Apr. 21 when they host UT Permian Basin.  The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
