Sul Ross State See Aggies Move By

LAWTON, Okla. – Freshman Alfonso Lopez tied a school record as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (2-33 Lone Star Conference, 3-33) lost 7-6 and 20-1 to Cameron (9-22 LSC, 9-22), Saturday at McCord Field.

Game 1
Cameron had a 1-0 lead heading into the third inning.  The Lobos used an error, a hit by pitch and four hits to put five runs on the scoreboard.

The Aggies chipped away and tied the game at 5-5 heading into the seventh inning.  Senior Estevan Ortiz was hit by a pitch and replaced on the bases by junior Aaron Morales.

Morales moved to second on a pass ball, third on a fly out and scored on an error to make it 6-5, SRSU.  Cameron scored twice in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

For Sul Ross State, junior Brock Rogers had two hits.  Junior Noah Tofan (1-1) gave up four hits, five runs with three earned, walked four and struck out two in one inning.

For Cameron, Victor Munoz (3-4) gave up seven hits, six runs with four earned, walked one and struck out four in seven innings.

Game 2
Cameron scored four runs in the third.  In the top of the fourth, Rogers was hit by a pitch and stole second.  Fifth year player Primo Vasquez singled to score Rogers.

Cameron scored five runs in the bottom half to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, freshmen Luke Garrett and Alfonso Lopez had two hits each.  Lopez became just the third player in program history to steal three bases in one game.

For Cameron, Josh Martinez (2-0) gave up six hits, one run, walked three and struck out four in five innings.

Sul Ross State closes the series with Cameron, Sunday, Mar. 30.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
