Sul Ross State Picks Up Second Straight Split

ALPINE, Texas – Junior Elizabeth Clemente had four hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (5-21 Lone Star Conference, 8-27) split with Lubbock Christian (12-14 LSC, 21-14), Friday afternoon at Lobo Softball Field.  The Lobos lost 6-3 and won the nightcap 8-5.  This is the second straight LSC split for SRSU.

Game 1
The Lady Chaps took a 3-0 lead after one inning.  In the second inning, the Lobos used two hits, a walk and an error to score twice.

LCU scored three more runs to take control.

For Sul Ross State, junior Adriana Hernandez had two hits and freshman Jenna Leanos had two hits and drove in two runs.  Junior Hannah Clark (1-1) gave up two hits, three runs and walked two.  Sophomore Loren Loveless did a solid job in relief giving up eight hits, three runs with two earned, walked three and struck out two in eight innings.

For Lubbock Christian, Teoni Lamb (4-5) gave up seven hits, three runs (none earned), walked two and struck out five in seven innings.

Game 2
In the first inning, senior Ciera Avila walked, moved to second on a pass ball and went to third on a ground out.  The Lady Chaps misplayed the ball hit by Hernandez allowing Avila to score.

LCU would score three runs over the next two innings.  In the bottom of the third, a walk, single and error put Avila on third, junior Tori Owens at second and sophomore Valeria Aguilar on first.

Clemente singled to score Avila while sophomore Samantha Bustos walked to push Owens across the plate.  A double by senior Jasmine Garcia scored Aguilar and Clemente to make it 5-3.

SRSU scored in the fourth inning to go up 6-3.  The Lady Chaps cut it to 6-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth.  Three hits and an error allowed SRSU to score two runs.  The Lobos set LCU down 1-2-3 in the seventh for the win.

For Sul Ross State, Clemente had three hits and scored twice, Avila scored three runs and Owens had two hits.  Senior Alyvia Quintana (4-9) gave up eight hits, five runs with four earned and walked three in seven innings.

For Lubbock Christian, Natalee Gray (4-3) gave up two hits, five runs with three earned and walked four in 2.3 innings.

Sul Ross State stays home, Saturday, Mar. 30 taking on #7 Angelo State.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
