Lobos Close Out Series With Buffs

CANYON, Texas – The Sul Ross State University baseball team (2-26 Lone Star Conference, 2-26) lost 5-1 and 18-3 to West Texas A&M (RV) (22-6 LSC, 23-6), Sunday afternoon at Wilder Park.

Game 1
Sul Ross State put the pressure on in the first inning.  Freshman Alfonso Lopez doubled and junior Aaron Morales singled to put two on. 

West Texas A&M managed to get out of the inning.  The Buffs scored a run in the third inning; then scored four to take control in the fifth.

For Sul Ross State, senior Jacob Salinas (0-5) gave up three hits, five runs, walked three and struck out two in six innings. 

For West Texas A&M, Max Lankford (3-0) gave up six hits, one run, walked two and struck out eight in seven innings.

Game 2
In the first inning, sophomore Rene Ramos singled to drive in Lopez.  That put the Lobos up 1-0.  The Buffs took a 7-1 lead after three innings.

In the fourth inning, junior Brock Rogers led off with a walk.  Junior Corbin Montayne blasted a shot over the right field fence to make it 7-3.  WTAM scored six runs over the next two innings to seal the game. 

For Sul Ross State, Lopez and Montayne had two hits each.  Senior Alvaro Hernandez (0-1) gave up six hits, seven runs and walked five in 2.3 innings. 

Sul Ross State returns home, Friday, Mar. 21, taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
