Sul Ross State Slugs It Out With Greyhounds

ALPINE, Texas – Freshman Alfonso Lopez, junior Corbin Montayne and junior Aaron Morales had multiple hits as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (2-27 Lone Star Conference, 2-27) lost 17-12 to Eastern New Mexico (13-12 LSC, 15-12), Friday at Kokernot Field.

In the bottom of the first inning, Lopez singled and moved to second on a passed ball.  Fifth year player Primo Vasquez doubled down the right field line to score Lopez.

The Greyhounds score four runs in the second to take the lead.  In the bottom of the inning, Montayne had a home run to cut it to 4-2.

In the third inning, Morales singled and sophomore Rene Ramos blasted the ball over the left field fence to tie the game at 4-4.  ENMU scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, Morales had three hits and scored three runs, Montayne had two hits (both home runs), scored three runs and drove in three runs while Lopez had two hits and drove in two runs.  Junior Christian Loveless (0-5) gave up four hits, nine runs, walked seven and struck out two in three innings.

For Eastern New Mexico, Demitrius DiMatteo (1-0) walked one and struck out one in 1.7 innings. 

Sul Ross State remains home, Saturday, Mar. 22, taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
