Lobos Fall To Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Freshman Alfonso Lopez extended his hitting streak as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (2-17 Lone Star Conference, 2-17) lost 15-0 and 8-2 to Texas A&M Kingsville (11-8 LSC, 12-9), Saturday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.

Game 1
In the first inning, Lopez led off with a single.  The Javelinas got a pop up, fielder's choice and strikeout to turn the Lobos back.  TAMUK scored six runs over the next three innings to take control.

For Sul Ross State, senior Ryan Sandoval (1-4) gave up six hits, eight runs with six earned, walked four and struck out two in 3.1 innings.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Ulises Quiroga (3-1) threw a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts in seven innings.

Game 2
Texas A&M Kingsville scored seven runs over the first two innings to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Lopez singled in the first inning to push his hitting streak to seven games.  Junior Christian Loveless (0-2) gave up nine hits, eight runs, walked three and struck out seven in five innings.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Gabriel LeBlanc (3-1) gave up five hits, two runs, walked two and struck out five in six innings.

Sul Ross State closes the series with Texas A&M Kingsville, Sunday, Mar. 2.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
